After a serious car accident, the insurance company is not on your side. Their adjusters are trained to minimize what your claim is worth, and their lawyers are paid to pay you less. The right attorney changes that.

Over $100 Million+ in Settlements

Long Island Car Accident Lawyers. Trial-Ready Representation.
Phil Gurevich and Albert Buznik have spent years representing injured clients across Long Island. Over that time, we have built real relationships inside the local community. People who have worked with us regularly send their family and friends to our office. Not through a billboard or an ad, but through someone who has already been through the process and trusts our work.
Our attorneys are admitted to practice in New York state and federal courts. They handle every case with one core question in mind: what would this case be worth if we took it to trial? Preparing for that answer is what successfully changes the insurance company's settlement offer.

Why People Choose GB Law Firm
When you are dealing with a serious injury, the law firm you choose will directly impact the outcome of your claim. We built our practice on a few core commitments that set us apart and protect your interests from day one.
-
Direct Attorney Attention. No Gatekeepers.
When you hire GB Law Firm, an experienced attorney reviews your case personally. You will know exactly who is reading your medical records, who is on the phone with the insurance carrier, and who will walk into the courtroom if your case goes to litigation.
-
Prepared for Trial, Which Is What Moves a Number.
Most cases settle. Carriers keep data on which firms actually face juries and price their offers accordingly. We build every file as if it is going to one, and that preparation is the leverage that changes what your claim is worth.
-
Referred by the People We Have Already Represented.
Most of our work arrives through someone who has been through the process with us. Not a billboard, not an advertisement, but a person who trusts us enough to send their own family and friends to our office.
-
Local Knowledge Carriers Cannot Argue With.
The Long Island Expressway, Sunrise Highway, the Northern State. Nassau and Suffolk courts, and the adjusters who work them. We know the ground your case happened on, and it shows in how the claim is built.
Practice Areas
Types of Car Accident Cases
Our firm represents clients injured in a wide range of motor vehicle accidents across Suffolk County and Nassau County.
-
Rear-End Collisions
These are the most common accidents on the LIE, Sunrise Highway, and Northern State Parkway. While the trailing driver is usually at fault, insurance carriers frequently try to argue brake-checking, sudden stops, or pre-existing injuries to minimize payouts.
-
Head-On Collisions
Among the most catastrophic outcomes, and the cases where the full scope of damages is most often understated by the carrier.
-
Distracted Driving Crashes
Phone records, telematics and scene evidence are perishable. They need to be preserved early, before they are overwritten or lost.
-
Hit-and-Run Crashes
An unidentified driver does not end your claim. Uninsured motorist coverage frequently applies, and the claim runs against your own carrier.
-
Multi-Vehicle Pileups
Several carriers, several defenses, and a race to assign blame elsewhere. Sorting liability early is what protects your claim.
-
Intersection and T-Bone Crashes
Side-impact collisions where fault turns on signal timing, sight lines and witness accounts. These cases are won on evidence gathered early.
-
Drunk and Impaired Driving Crashes
Criminal charges against the driver do not resolve your civil claim. They are separate cases, and the civil claim is where your recovery comes from.
-
Rideshare Accidents
Uber and Lyft coverage shifts depending on whether the driver was waiting, en route, or carrying a passenger. Which policy applies changes what your claim is worth.
-
Uninsured and Underinsured Driver Cases
When the at-fault policy cannot cover your injuries, the claim may run against your own coverage. That does not make it a friendly negotiation.
-
Pedestrian and Bicycle Crashes
Injuries are severe, and the driver's insurer often begins by questioning where you were walking or riding.
-
Truck and Commercial Vehicle Crashes
Federal rules, driver logs and corporate defense counsel from the first day. These files need to be built differently from the start.

What to Do After a Crash on Long Island
The first forty-eight hours after an accident are critical for your health and your potential legal claim. Take these steps, in this order.
-
Call 911 and Request a Formal Police Report
The report fixes the date, location, vehicles and any citations in an official record before memories move.
-
Seek Medical Attention Immediately
Adrenaline masks injury, and a gap between the crash and your first treatment is the first thing an adjuster will point to.
-
Document the Scene Thoroughly
Vehicle positions, damage, skid marks, signals, road conditions, and your visible injuries. More photographs than feel necessary.
-
Gather Witness Contact Information
Names and phone numbers. Independent witnesses are difficult to find later and hard for a carrier to dismiss.
-
File a No-Fault Claim with Your Own Insurer
New York law requires you to open this claim with your own insurance company to cover your initial medical bills, regardless of who caused the accident.
-
Decline Recorded Statements from the Other Driver's Insurer
You are not obligated to give one. These calls are taken early precisely because you do not yet know the extent of your injuries.
-
Consult an Experienced Attorney Early
Evidence disappears, deadlines run, and the first offer arrives sooner than most people expect.
Trip-and-Fall and Slip-and-Fall Accidents
Not every serious injury on Long Island happens on the road. A fall on someone else's property can leave you with broken bones, head injuries, and mounting bills, and we handle those cases too.
Icy walkways, broken pavement, unmarked steps, wet store floors, poor lighting, and other unsafe conditions all fall under premises liability. The property owner has a duty to keep the space reasonably safe, and when they fail to do it, they can be held responsible for the harm that follows. These cases turn on proving the owner knew or should have known about the hazard, which is why photographs, incident reports, and prompt investigation matter so much. Evidence at the scene disappears quickly once the ice melts or the spill is cleaned up.

Trial-Ready Case Preparation
While most car accident cases ultimately settle out of court, the only way to secure a settlement for what your case is actually worth is to prepare it as if it is heading to a courtroom. That is how we handle every single file from day one.
Where We Work
We represent injured drivers and passengers throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties — the North Shore, the South Shore, and the thoroughfares where Long Island traffic actually builds up.
-
Expressway
The Long Island Expressway
High-speed rear-end and lane-change collisions, and the chain-reaction pileups that follow them.
-
Route 27
Sunrise Highway
Intersection and turning collisions along one of the island's busiest surface corridors.
-
Parkways
Northern State & Southern State
Merge and off-ramp crashes where fault turns on sight lines and signal timing.
-
Local roads
Towns across both counties
Pedestrian, cyclist and residential-street collisions, and premises claims off the road entirely.
Put Experienced Long Island Advocates on Your Side
When you are dealing with the physical and financial aftermath of an injury, you need clear answers from the people who are actually handling your file. At GB Law Firm, Albert Buznik and Phil Gurevich manage your claim personally from your very first phone call until your case is resolved. You will never be handed off to an assistant or left wondering who is reviewing your medical records and speaking with the insurance adjusters.
Our approach is built on a distinct competitive advantage: we prepare every single case as if it is heading directly to trial. Because insurance companies keep data on which firms settle quickly and which ones face juries, our courtroom-ready preparation forces carriers to value your claim properly. Combined with our deep familiarity with Long Island roads, local adjusters, and Nassau and Suffolk courts, we provide the strategic leverage you need to secure a fair outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions About New York Accidents
How soon should I call an attorney after a crash?
It is best to call as soon as possible. Critical physical evidence can disappear within days, and insurance adjusters often call within 24 to 72 hours to lock you into a recorded statement before you have legal advice. Contacting us early protects your rights and prevents these early missteps.
What happens if the at-fault driver is uninsured?
Your own policy's uninsured motorist coverage generally steps in, and New York requires every auto policy to carry it. If the other driver carried too little insurance rather than none, underinsured motorist coverage may apply instead.
How long do I have to file a car accident lawsuit in New York?
Generally three years from the date of the crash for a personal injury claim. A wrongful death claim runs two years from the date of death. A claim against a city, town or public authority requires a notice of claim within 90 days.
What do I need to prove to win a slip-and-fall or trip-and-fall case?
That the property owner created the dangerous condition, knew about it, or should have known about it and had a reasonable opportunity to correct it. That is why photographs, incident reports and prompt investigation matter so much.
Who pays my medical bills after a slip-and-fall accident?
Unlike a car accident, there is no no-fault coverage for a fall. Your own health insurance usually pays first. If the claim succeeds, those costs are recovered from the responsible party, and any health insurer that paid may assert a lien against that recovery.
Will my case actually go to trial?
Most cases settle. But we prepare every file as though it is going to a jury, because that preparation is what makes a carrier improve its offer. If the offer never becomes fair, we are ready to try it.
Can I still recover compensation if I am partly at fault for the accident?
Yes. New York follows pure comparative negligence, so being partly at fault reduces your recovery by your share of the blame but does not bar it.
New York's No-Fault Law and the Serious Injury Exception
Your own auto insurance policy covers your initial medical bills and lost wages regardless of who caused the crash. However, to file a lawsuit against the at-fault driver for pain and suffering, your injury must meet New York's specific "serious injury" threshold. Evaluating whether your injury qualifies is one of the very first things we analyze.
The Reality of the Insurance Carrier's First Offer
The first number an adjuster puts in front of you usually arrives before anyone knows the full extent of your injuries, often before you have finished treating. It is an opening position, not a valuation. Accepting it generally closes the claim for good, including for treatment you have not had yet.
Strict Legal Deadlines for Filing a Claim
A no-fault application generally must reach your own insurer within 30 days of the accident. Most New York personal injury lawsuits must be filed within three years. Claims involving a city, town or public authority run on a far shorter clock. Missing any one of these can end an otherwise strong case.
Social Media Posts as Defense Evidence
A photograph at a family event or a comment about feeling better can be presented out of context as proof your injuries are not serious. Do not delete existing posts, which creates its own problems. Simply stop posting about the accident, your health and your activities.
Trial Readiness Drives Settlement Value
Insurance companies track which firms try cases and which reliably settle early. Complete records, retained experts and locked-down deposition testimony change the arithmetic on the other side of the table.
Talk Directly with Our Attorneys
Your initial consultation is directly with one of our founding partners. A brief fifteen-minute conversation is typically all it takes to review what happened and determine if your claim is viable.
